Job Description for Computer Training Specialist

 

Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to: two years college-level course work in technology and two years increasingly responsible experience repairing and servicing computer terminals and data communication equipment.

 

If the best applicant does not meet these requirements, an additional 12 months of time will be given to meet the qualifications. If qualifications are not met, the contract will be terminated.

 

Reports To: District Technology Coordinator

 

Job Goal: Perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, repair, alteration and maintenance of computers, printers, phone systems, security cameras and other peripheral equipment; train district personnel in use of computers and related software operation.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, repair, alteration and maintenance of computers, printers, phone systems, security cameras and other peripheral equipment; schedule repairs or installations.
  2. Develop and conduct one-on-one and group training of district personnel in use of computers and related software.
  3. Inspect, isolate and diagnose system malfunctions and determine appropriate repair procedures; replace defective parts and restore to proper operation of equipment; analyze and resolve general software malfunctions.
  4. Develop and maintain cable location diagrams for local area networks, device sharing and computer terminals.
  5. Install computer hardware systems and software, including upgrades and enhancements.
  6. Perform preventive maintenance on printers including cleaning, lubricating, adjusting mechanical parts, and checking cables and connectors as necessary.
  7. Install workstations, printers and security cameras; determine appropriate location for installation; install cables, connect devices and test device for proper operation.
  8. Maintain and repair phone connections and voice mail.
  9. Move equipment to new locations as requested; reroute and install communication cables for new location; test system to assure proper operation.
  10. Perform component level equipment repair; remove defective components, replace and initiate test using established procedures; locate and request replacement components.
  11. Operate hand tools, protocol analyzers, diagnostic software, soldering iron and cable testing equipment.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Methods, equipment and tools used in the skilled repair and servicing of computer equipment, security cameras and phone systems.
  • Windows operating system and computer hardware.
  • Analog and digital communications equipment and maintenance techniques.
  • Safety practices and precautions used in working with computer equipment.
  • Operation of a variety of testing equipment, power tools and measuring instruments.
  • Basic DOS commands and computer operations.
  • Technical aspects of the computer field.
  • Diagnostic techniques and procedures used in computer and electronics repair.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills including patience, trust, courtesy and effective communication skills – both written and oral.

  • Maintain records related to work performed.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Work independently with little direction.
